Description: Lovely Chinese antique carved wood polychrome figure/sculpture of Zhao Gong Ming. God of prosperity. Carved from one solid piece of wood. This statue is in very good condition though it is missing the staff that was originally held in his hand. You can see the hole where it was originally placed as shown. This piece is old and shows its age. Most of the paint still intact though worn. Dimensions 6” wide x 3.5” deep x 15-7/8” tall. Zhao Gong Ming (Cai Shen) is depicted with the cap of an official and an iron club (missing) as symbol of his power. It is said that he was riding on a tiger. He was able to chase away thunder and lightning and to invoke clouds and rain. His most important religious function was to dispel pestilence and to ward off natural disasters. He also functions as a judge who rectifies unjust verdicts, and is appealed as a god of money. In this capacity he is commonly called Caishen 財神, the God of Money. The character of Zhao Gongming as a "general" repelling diseases.
