Description: Don Sturdy on the Desert of Mystery, Original Dust Jacket, WildAdventures from 1925! Excellent condition for the serious collector, this book istight and clean. Don Sturdy on the Desert of Mystery was published in 1925.This copy was actually printed in 1929 (see paragraph below about dating series books). At 95 years old it is wonderfully preserved! The dust jacket has a mysterious stain on the back but is otherwise quite nice and preserved in an archival sleeve. Study the photographs I have taken to judge the condition for yourself. Thank you for taking a look at my book auctions! This series was created by Edward Stratemeyer who was inspired by the popularity of explorer’s tales in the mid 1920s. Stratemeyer of course is behind a huge number of boy’s adventure books from the early part of the last century. He would have conceived the series and outlined this story before handing it to one of the many writers that worked for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. The author’s name on this book (a pen name) is the same as the morefamous Tom Swift series, Victor Franklin. I collected Series Books from the time I was a teenager inthe mid 1960s until the late 1990s. At that time, I turned my attention to thepulp lit of the late 1800s (Dime Novels, Story Papers). At this point I realizethat I just have too much stuff, so even though I have enjoyed having walls ofthese books filling my office at home, I think it’s time they found new homes. So, I will be gradually selling off around 500 Stratemeyer and StratemeyerSyndicate books from the 1890s to the 1920s, some quite scarce. I hope you findyour next treasure among these that I will offer! As you may know, the way to establish (as close as possible)the actual printing date for one of these books is to study the ads in themwhere other titles are listed. The copyright date tells when the book was firstpublished, and by noting which other titles are listed on the dust jacket andin the book, the latest title listed will usually tell what year the book wasprinted. For instance, a Tom Swift book might be copyrighted in 1912 and have abeautiful color dust jacket. However, those color jackets were first used in1922, and if the most recent Tom Swift title listed on the dust jacket and inthe back of the book was copyrighted in 1926, this particular copy was printedin 1926. I use the Mattson and Davis Collector’s Guide to Hard Cover Boys’ SeriesBooks as a primary reference, and several other references to supplement asneeded to try to be as accurate as possible in my descriptions.I will ship to the continental US only, thank you. Thanks again and I look forward to shipping it to you!
