Description: Vintage Whitman First Edition Mercury dime folder Starting 1916. One of the first early production folders made in 1941 most of these folders were posted to 5 and 10 cent stores as well as General Stores and immediately became very popular with the collecting public as a way to make some money as the effects of the Great Depression had not yet ended and would linger a while longer until the beginning of the second world war. notice that this folder only has room for coins up to and including 1945p and that only coins up to and including 1940 p d and s coins were imprinted with dates and mintages. The fact that there is no printing under the openings for 1941 thru 1945p shows that the folders were produced mid 1941 to early 1942 and maybe even as late as the later part of 1940. If you would like more information on these folders please refer to David W. Lange's book "Coin Collecting AlbumsA Complete History & CatalogueVolume ThreeWhitman Publishing Company folders and albums 1940 to 1978" There were a total of eight different editions produced from 1940 to 1978,a ninth edition was produced from 1978 to 1999and a tenth edition from 2000 to the present day.
