James Goodall Rosewood Standard 1987 Gloss Natural Hand-Made Acoustic Guitar This guitar is a commission sale - if you have a high end guitar you are interested in selling, please contact us via our easy to find website - search: Sell Us Your Guitar. Here for sale we have a Goodall Rosewood Standard in Gloss Natural finish. Since building his first guitar in 1972, James Goodall has gone on to become one of the finest luthiers producing hand-made acoustic guitars today. Now a family business, James and his son Luke’s workshop produce just two guitars of the finest quality each week. Made in the USA in 1987, the fairly early example of Goodall's fantastic work features an all-solid bolt-on construction comprising a Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck and 20 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is double-bound in Flamed Maple, whilst the top is handsomely adorned with an Abalone rosette. Abalone is also selected for the diamond fingerboard inlays and headstock logo. Gold Gotoh tuning machines are fitted, and complete a very well appointed instrument. The Mahogany neck plays very well, with a profile that might be described as a rather shallow 'C' shape which offers ergonomic thumb positioning and smooth articulate playability across the register. The Ebony of the fingerboard is of the highest quality, with a very dark appearance and tight grain, the playing surface feels fantastic under the fingers. This, along with the Abalone inlays and Brass side dots add a real sense of luxury to the playing experience. The acoustic voice of the Goodall Rosewood Standard is rich and exceptionally well balanced. The bass response is deep and sumptuous, adding a real sense of character to the overall sound. Mids are open and clear, whilst the top end is bright and shimmering. This makes every note played on the instrument shimmer with a lush and luxurious tone that you would not normally expect from such a large body shape. The Sitka Spruce top projects very well, producing plenty of volume and a wide dynamic range which feels nicely responsive to the player's touch. A beautifully hand crafted instrument which exemplifies the Goodall family's stellar work. Notable indentation which chips the finish is apparent to the rear top edge and bass side corner. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate light to mild scratching, visible under direct lighting as is common with high gloss finishes. Neck: Overall very good condition. The fingerboard demonstrates light indentation and some tooling marks from fret work and regular use. These cannot be felt under the finger and do not affect the overall playability of the instrument. The finish to the rear of the neck is slightly cloudy and sticky, consistent with playwear and the use of inappropriate polish. Light indentation is apparent throughout the rear of the neck, which can be slightly felt under the thumb. This is most notable in the early register. Body: Overall good condition. A repaired crack is apparent to the bass side waist on the side of the instrument. This does not flex and is well repaired. No finish repair has been attempted, meaning that the crack can be felt under the finger. This does not affect the sound or structural integrity of the instrument. A similar repaired crack is present to the rear face of the lower bout. This does not flex under pressure and presents no structural concern. The finish is clouding slightly in some places, most notably the sides. The front face demonstrates consistent light to mild scratching and indentation throughout, most apparent to the bass side shoulder and the lower bout. The rear demonstrates mild scratching and indentation spread evenly across the surface, consistent with buckle rash. Condition of Frets:This instrument appears to have had a level and re-crown recently to a good standard. There is only light material remaining in the frets for further fret work. Current Set Up:Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (5/16" socket) not included.Hardware: Fully functional with moderate signs of wear, most notably tarnishing to the machine heads.Structural: No concerns or issues to note.Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.75mm - Bass 2.25mmPlease be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height. Strings on Guitar - 11-52 Further Notes:The sticker at the neck block inside the instrument has been broken to reveal the neck bolt beneath. It is likely this instrument has had work done to amend the neck angle, but this is not apparent through anything other than the sticker being broken. If work has been performed, it is to an excellent standard and indiscernible from its original condition. Electrics:The electrics have been removed, leaving just the endpin jack present. No parts are included. Case & AccessoriesHard caseThe case demonstrates notable signs of use remaining fully functional. No key is present, meaning that the locking latch cannot be used. No truss rod tool included.
