De morbis pectoris. . CONDITION NOTES: VERY GOOD. A well cared for volume with clean and fresh pages, as well as smooth, attractive covers. Minor faults, else FINE. Tail cap perished. Minimal rubbing to covers, with stamp gilt on spine somewhat handled but gilt on title patch bright and prominent. Small gouges to back cover, and tail of front joint. Pages clean with only light spotting to title page and back pastedown.BINDING: Full speckled calf with compartmented spine. All edges red..Andrés Piquer (1711–1772) was a Spanish physician, philosopher, logician, writer and Author. During the eighteenth century, growing criticism from Galenism dominated the Spanish University, which ignited a reevaluation of the Hippocratic works. Among the most important authors of this reformist trend stood Andrés Piquer y Arrufat, eclectic philosopher and doctor to the Kings Ferdinand VI and Charles III. His desire to apply Hippocratic theory to medical university led him to make some of the first Hippocratic treatises. Among these treatises, the translation and commentary of Epidemics 1 and 3, and partially Epidemic 2, are especially noteworthy. His medical and physiological work relates not only to Hippocrates but also to the medical concepts of Thomas Sydenham, 'the English Hippocrates', who was famous for his work Observationes Medicae (1676).
