Description: 1889 bicycle ad Psycho Cycles This is a 1/4-page magazine advertisement published in 1889 in a sawmill industry publication titled Southern Lumberman, promoting bicycles made by Starley Brothers of Coventry, England. It is over 130 years old. It is on a sheet measuring 10.5 x 13.5 inches in size overall, with the cycle related ad being 3x9 inches. The page is in excellent condition, with a couple very light dampstains on small portions of its edges. Half the ad displays an attractive of the Psycho, over a caption of, Ladies' and Gentlemen's Psychos. Three Weights, 39 lbs., 44 lbs., and 50 lbs. The ad was on behalf of a sales agent for the product, James Barham of Nashville. Its headlines and text say: Psycho Cycles. Seven Forms of Safeties. Varying in Weight, Size, and Construction. Four Weights for Ladies. All Suitable for Men. Psycho Cycles are manufactured by the oldest cycle making firm in the world, Starley Bros., Coventry, England, who were the first to import the rear driving safety in America. This is the only Safety in the world that has not undergone changes each year. The Psaycho is noted for its lightness, strength, simplicity, (fewness of parts) beautiful finish, and graceful appearance. Ease in mounting and dismounting, speed, hill climbing qualities, and its adaptability as a family machine, and the double demand it will meet when necessary to sell. The Southern Lumberman's ads were almost exclusively for mill machinery (all business), so it was unusual to see a cycling one of consumer appeal featured in its pages. _gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 (1680))
