Description: THE AUCTION OF SOULSThe Story Aurora Mardiganian, the Christian Girl who Survived the Great Massacres Interpreted by H.L. Gates No date present but believed to have been published in the 1930's by Phoenix Press370th Thousand Formerly Printed in America [1918] for Private Distribution Only, as"RAVISHED ARMENIA" The Auction of Souls is a graphic retelling of the true story of Aurora (Arshaluys) Mardiganian (1901-1994), a teenage Armenian girl, who was caught up in the 1915 Armenian Genocide, the 'first genocide in modern history'.Mardiganian witnessed the murder of her family and the suffering of her people at the hands of the Ottoman Empire. Forced to march over fourteen hundred miles, she was sold into slavery. When she escaped to the United States, Mardiganian was then exploited by the very individuals whom she believed might help. Her story was made into a film in 1919, in which Mardiganian played herself. And in 2022, 'Aurora's Sunrise', an animated documentary was released, and was Armenia's official entry for the 95th Academy Awards.
